A quick PSA, because working in a New Age store I realize a lot of people don’t know this. Keep in mind this is the simple version.
The fella on the left-hand side, that’s Gautama Buddha, the Buddha, the central figure in Buddhism. Note that he is not considered a god, but a teacher and spiritual leader, the first to attain Enlightenment in his era. Note also how thin he is. This is because the Buddha fasted a lot. He was born Siddhartha Gautama. Buddha is a title, and not actually his name.
The fella on the right-hand side is not Buddha. This is a common misconception in the West. That is Hotai (or Budai or Hotei depending on the language), a Buddhist monk from China and folkloric hero. Hotai is thought by many to be a Buddha, but he is not the Buddha. Unlike Buddha, Hotai actually is revered as a god in Chinese folklore, although not in Buddhist practice.
This post is based on things I’ve been taught by my Buddhist coworker but if I forgot or mixed up something important and you are Buddhist and you notice, please let me know.
This has been an informational post. Have a nice day.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD EVERYONE READ THIS. READ IT. LEARN IT. PREACH IT.
I AM SO TIRED OF EVERYONE BELIEVING THIS MISCONCEPTION.
There is literally nothing more entertaining than watching 2 Chainz eat this $300 burger.

A feminist group based in Guangzhou, China staged an online protest against the sexual exploitation of women in the workplace, revealing a photograph with a message boldly written in red on a whiteboard behind them: “My vagina does not come free with my labor.” More words were written on the women’s thighs, reiterating: “Not freebies.”
The campaign was in response to a recent fatal rape case involving a 20-year-old woman at a state-owned company who was asked by her boss to a dinner. She was sexually assaulted by her boss’s friend and died as a result of her injuries.“Don’t ask your staff to provide part-time escort services. Women should only be asked to provide knowledge or technical skills in the workplace, but not other things,” says Ye Haiyan, an advocate of women’s and children’s rights.

Author John Scalzi was on a roll this morning (currently 7:14 AM, 26 Sept. 2014) with a tweet he found from some guy sending out an “ultimatum” to women to “make a choice” between feminism and, well, men like him. So Scalzi launched into a truly magnificent set of scorchers, which I’m posting here for the delectation of people everywhere.
Also: I would like to thank that guy for setting the ultimatum. It makes finding a boyfriend so much easier when the undesirable ones wear a placard identifying themselves.
All of the above paintings were painted by a THREE YEAR OLD!
She has autism and is being called the “Mini Monet”
—Iris Grace Halmshaw’s colorful, impressionistic watercolor paintings have an ethereal, glowing, floral beauty, prompting comparison to Monet. Halmshaw, who lives in Market Harborough, England, is 3 years old, autistic and does not speak. Her parents first handed her a paintbrush hoping to help her connect with others; their hopes were more than realized. “When she started doing art therapy we thought it was amazing, but we’re her parents so we think everything she does is amazing,” her dad, Peter-Jon Halmshaw, said. Others thought so, too – and now Iris Grace’s paintings are selling for almost $1,300. Her first painting was sold at a charity auction. Profits from other sales of her paintings go toward her art supplies and therapy.
Check out this amazing little girl’s art:

Mexico City: Sex workers gather to commemorate their colleagues who were violently murdered, two days before the Day of the Dead festival.
this is why you don’t fuck around with day of the dead, because it has a deeper meaning than “pretty sugar skulls”. those are offerings to the dead, a symbol of each and every person we choose to honor in the afterlife; not some quirky costume to put on and appropriate. those skulls mean something, the pan de muertos and altars mean something. so go fuck yourself if you think that they’re just for decoration while you shit on my ancestors for you stupid pasty ass bland halloween party.
This is extremely important to me, and my whole culture.
